The centre of a circle is always the midpoint of any diameter — that is what makes it a diameter, rather than just any chord.
Two points, two formulas. Match each of the words centre and radius to the formula that finds it from the ends of a diameter, and say what extra step one of them needs that the other does not.

Both formulas eat the same two points, which is exactly why they get swapped. The midpoint averages the coordinates and lands between $A$ and $B$; the distance formula subtracts them and measures across. Writing $\sqrt{80}$ as the radius is the standard loss here: $AB$ is the whole diameter, so the radius is half of it. Part (a) carries B1 for the centre and M1 A1 for the radius; the halving lives inside that A1 and is not paid for separately.

(A) has both signs the wrong way round: the form already contains a minus, so a centre coordinate of $-1$ arrives as $x - (-1) = x + 1$. (B) forgot to square: the right-hand side is $r^2$, not $r$, and $\left(2\sqrt{5}\right)^{2} = 4 \times 5 = 20$. Test any circle equation by putting the centre in — both brackets must vanish and the left-hand side must read $0$. (C) describes points on the segment $AB$, and every point of that segment except $A$ and $B$ is inside the circle, not on it. The radius is always the hypotenuse in this picture, because the right angle is at $M$, and the side opposite the right angle is the long one. Take $OM$ as the hypotenuse instead and you are subtracting the wrong way round: $20 - 625$ is negative, which is the arithmetic telling you the triangle is upside down. The other half of the choice is which side the third length is: the triangle only reaches as far as $M$, so what comes out is half the chord and must still be doubled. A “show that” is answered with a number, and the number here is $-1$. Naming the relationship describes what you are looking at but proves nothing; the marker needs to see the product formed. Every length in this triangle stops at $M$, and $M$ is the middle of the chord, so the last thing that happens in the question is a doubling. Stopping at $11\sqrt{5}$ answers a question nobody asked. The simplification is worth doing before the doubling, not after: pull out the largest square factor, $121$, and the $2$ then multiplies a tidy surd. The A1 is for $22\sqrt{5}$; noticing that the halving in part (a) has to be undone here is the whole of the decision and none of the mark.
