An identity is proved by rewriting one side until it turns into the other, and the side to work on is the complicated one — there is nowhere useful to go from $\dfrac{2}{\sin\theta}$, while the left has two fractions asking to be combined. Working on both sides at once, or multiplying both sides by $\sin\theta(1+\cos\theta)$, assumes the very thing you are proving; that is the move that costs the marks even when the algebra is right. As for the identity, $\sin^2\theta+\cos^2\theta=1$ is the only one available at this level, and the $(1+\cos\theta)^2$ that appears after combining is exactly what invites it. Part (a) is M1 for the common denominator, M1 for using the identity, A1 for the finish.

Every trigonometric equation is solved in two stages, and the first one is ordinary algebra with the whole of $\sin\theta$ treated as a single unknown — rearrange until that block stands alone, and only then look up the angle. Trying to divide by $\sin$ as though it were a number is the standard wreck: $\sin$ is a function, not a factor, and $\dfrac{2}{\sin\theta}$ does not simplify to $\dfrac{2}{\sin}\theta$. Naming the unknown as $\sin\theta$ also keeps you honest about how many answers to expect, because the second stage is where one value of $\sin\theta$ becomes two angles. Three decisions ride on this one line. The interval is written in degrees, so the calculator must be in degrees — in radians the inverse sine returns $0.785$, and every answer after it is wrong by a factor of $\dfrac{180}{\pi}$. The number of solutions comes from the shape of the sine curve, which crosses a positive horizontal line twice in one turn, so the principal value alone is half an answer. And the excluded angles come from the question the identity started from: the original expression has $\sin\theta$ in a denominator, so $\sin\theta = 0$ would divide by zero. None of the three is on the mark scheme; the A marks are for $45^\circ$ and $135^\circ$, and each decision quietly protects one.

The substitution is applied to the interval exactly as it is applied to the equation: multiply the endpoints by $3$, the same $3$ that multiplies $x$. (B) divides instead, which is the reflex of someone thinking about the answers rather than about $u$; (A) forgets the step altogether and leaves the interval where it was. Either way the general solution is then scanned over too small a range and the extra solutions are never found — and they are found nowhere else in the question, so the loss is permanent. The interval $0 \le x \le 2\pi$ is written in radians, so radians is the language of the whole question and the calculator has to speak it. But the instruction goes one step further than the mode: exact rules out $0.5236$ even though it is the right size, because a decimal is not a multiple of $\pi$. What you want is the standard angle behind the decimal, and $\dfrac{\pi}{6}$ is worth knowing by heart along with $\dfrac{\pi}{4}$ and $\dfrac{\pi}{3}$. Sine and cosine repeat every $2\pi$ and tangent repeats every $\pi$, because the tangent graph completes a whole branch between consecutive asymptotes. Use $2\pi$ here and you list three values instead of six, which looks tidy and is half an answer. The count is worth doing before the arithmetic: with a branch every $\pi$ and an interval $6\pi$ wide, there are exactly six. Then the last step reverses the substitution — $u = 3x$ means $x = \dfrac{u}{3}$, so the values shrink, and multiplying instead pushes every answer outside the interval it was supposed to live in.
