1Separate a differential equation

Show that $\dfrac{dy}{dx} = 2x^2y$ can be separated, writing it in the form $\displaystyle\int \ldots\,dy = \int \ldots\,dx$.

จงแสดงว่าสมการ $\dfrac{dy}{dx} = 2x^2y$ แยกตัวแปรได้ โดยเขียนในรูป $\displaystyle\int \ldots\,dy = \int \ldots\,dx$

$\displaystyle\int \dfrac{1}{y}\,dy = \int 2x^2\,dx$
Every $y$ (including the $dy$) belongs on the left; every $x$ (including the $dx$) belongs on the right. Nothing is integrated yet — this step is purely rearranging.
2Integrate both sides of a separated equation

Integrate both sides of $\displaystyle\int \dfrac{1}{y}\,dy = \int \left(-2\cos x\right)dx$.

$\ln y = -2\sin x + c$
$\int \frac{1}{y}\,dy = \ln y$, and $\int \cos x\,dx = \sin x$ (times whatever constant is out front). The two integrations each produce their own constant, but those combine into a single $+c$ — write it once, not twice.
3Use an initial condition to find c

The general solution of a differential equation is $\ln y = -2\sin x + c$. Given that $y = 6$ when $x = 0$, find the value of $c$.

At $x = 0$, $\sin 0 = 0$, so every term containing $x$ vanishes and the equation collapses straight to $c = \ln 6$.

Both sides of $\displaystyle\int \dfrac{1}{y}\,dy = \int (-\cos x)\,dx$ are integrated, so each side owns an arbitrary constant. Write the line out with BOTH constants, then say what happens to them and where the single $+c$ that survives should be written.

$c_2 - c_1$ is just another unknown number, so it is renamed $c$ and there is only ever one. Writing a constant on both sides is not wrong, only wasteful; writing none at all is fatal, because question 6 has nothing left to solve for. The A1 pays for the integrated line WITH its constant, and no mark is given for understanding why one constant is enough.$c_2 - c_1$ ก็คือจำนวนที่ไม่รู้ค่าอีกตัวหนึ่ง จึงตั้งชื่อใหม่ว่า $c$ และมีตัวเดียวเสมอ · การเขียนค่าคงที่ทั้งสองข้างไม่ผิด แค่เปลืองบรรทัด แต่การไม่เขียนเลยคือหายนะ เพราะข้อ 6 จะไม่มีอะไรให้หา · A1 ให้กับบรรทัดที่อินทิเกรตแล้วพร้อมค่าคงที่ และไม่มีคะแนนให้กับการเข้าใจว่าทำไมค่าคงที่ตัวเดียวก็พอ

Same move as question 1, with the real coefficient. Divide both sides by $y$, and treat $\dfrac{dy}{dx}$ as a fraction you are allowed to split across the equals sign — this is part of what earns the mark for recognising the equation separates.

Integrate both sides of $\displaystyle\int \dfrac{1}{y}\,dy = \int \left(-\cos x\right)dx$.

Same move as question 2, with the real coefficient. This single line is the heart of the method — everything before it is setup, everything after it is rearranging.
6Use the initial condition to find c

คำตอบทั่วไปคือ $\ln y = -\sin x + c$ กำหนดให้ $y = 15$ เมื่อ $x = 0$ จงหาค่าคงตัว $c$

Same translation as question 1, with two differences to watch for: the proportionality here is to $\sqrt{V}$, not $V$ itself, and the volume is DEcreasing, so the constant of proportionality needs a minus sign that question 1's growing population did not.
